Railport Chemnitz
Information
The logistics location Chemnitz with its surrounding area is becoming increasingly important as a Railport and GVZ module for the Erzgebirge region and the Czech Republic. The aim of the Railport Chemnitz-Süd project is to transfer palletized general cargo, special cargo (large parts), steel, paper, etc. to rail. This is of particular benefit to the steel and paper industries as well as the automotive industry, but also to the food industry.
At the same time, the objective of a railport is taken into account: companies whose dispatch and receipt volumes are below those of block trains, wagon groups and wagonloads and which do not have their own railway siding are to be offered opportunities to obtain logistics services from a single source using the railway.
The project offers all interested companies in Chemnitz and the surrounding area access to the rail network. The offer of a „freight transport point“ ensures non-discriminatory access to rail transport of „general cargo“ for the entire region. It thus forms the basis for the planned revival of rail freight transport in the Chemnitz region. The Chemnitz-Süd railway station fulfils all the requirements for designating a railport as a consolidation point for freight traffic. In the meantime such a facility and the associated connection for the city of Chemnitz as well as the surrounding area are missing.
